Sony walkman cell phones have strong position in young market segment with their attractive and modern design. How about their new walkman serie ?

Just like have been said before, teenagers are potential segment for music cell phones. Sony prove it by release W395, the newest Sony Ericsson walkman series. Even, W395 is predicted as the sliding concept cell phone which has friendly price.

Design

Sony Ericsson W395 has a sliding concept. The body is similar with the previous walkman series, but some features have been improved with some innovations. Although, it’s not a high end product, this cell phone comes with a stylish design and qualified features.

The shinning logam material in ahead which is combinated with plastic material in the back side look pretty. The body is round in the corner, then stereo speakers complete the up side and bellow of the body. Very attractive!

Under the screen, there are special walkman buttons, include some standart buttons such as softkey, call, reject, musics, and navigation button which has double function for navigating and playing the musics.

In the palm of hand, the cell phone is tiny in default position, but when we slide the cover we would find alphanumeric keypad covered by transparent plastic. The keypad size is comfort enough for our fingers but a little bit slicky. But it doesn’t give any impact at all.

Screen and Interface
Actually 2 inch display (176 x 220 pixel) is small enough for some people, but it has supported by TFT 256. 000 colours LCD. The LCD is also protected by anti-scratch layer. Talking about the interface, Sony Ericsson W395 has a good quality of screen brightness and colour combination. Sony Ericsson standart icon also looks dynamic and attractive but only offering grid model.

High features

Media player
Music player feature supposed to be perform well for a walkman cell phones, but it doesn’t seems like that for Sony Ericsson W395. because it appears doesn’t give optimalization in music feature by the old version.

Different with other walkman cell phones which use high technology interface, Sony Ericsson W395 didn’ t support with the limited media player features. We have to find the tracks manually from the tracklists. But at least, we could still find main features such play mode, equalizer, stereo widening, visualization, skin and light effect.

In the performance side, the sound quality is satisfy. The speaker output is clear although it doesn’t sound optimal. So do with the output sound from the headset.

The trackID gives a little help for us to record the musics. With this application, users could search the files into Gracenote Mobile MusicID database.

Camera
W395 has 2 megapixel camera resolution, but we need to know that it didn’t come with general main features. Without autofocus and flash, it couldn’t be use optimal in the minimum exposure. Anyway, we could say that the picture quality is not bad. Indoor area, the picture result is unsatisfy, but in daylight the result is great. Fortunately, W395 also provide Photo Fix to fix our pictures. Beside that, the camera could be used to record video with 3gp format and 176 x 114 pixel resolution. It doesn’t seems optimal but we could use it to record our special moments.

Network and Internet
Talking about this side, W395 doesn’t supported by 3G, so there’s no video call facility whereas it has becomes such general facility. W395 only has GPRS and EDGE for internet access. Fast enough and stable for opening wap or web pages. The internet browser is WAP 2,0/HTML. It is enough for internet access via cell phone. The browser setting is not much difficult for users.

Connectivity
Connectivity is an important point for a music cell phone. W395 has supported by data transfer features such as Bluetooth and data cable. The performance are not bad because they have been supported by the newest technology. The Bluetooth support A2DP that could be synchronize with Bluetooth headset and other things which is compatible. While the data cable could be used to data transfer via PC. So if we want to transfer a big size file, the 2.0v USB could be very usefull.

Battery
W395 is supported by 950 mAh lithium polimer. This capacity could make the cell phone stand for until 3 days.

Conclusion
Compared with other walkman cell phone, W395 couldn’t offer more features. One plus point is come from the design and the casing material. The body is attractive and make us proud to have it.
